1.    What is Betfair?

 

Betfair is a wagering platform that allows punter vs punter betting exchanges. This is a popular alternative to traditional corporate bookies who offer lower odds wherever they can. Betfair offers superior value and unique betting techniques to the traditional bookmakers.  

 

 

2.    I find Betfair confusing and intimidating, why should I use it?

 

You would be hard pressed to find a successful punter in Australia that does not regularly use Betfair. Not only will your profit margins increase, but you will also gain a better understanding of what the market is doing or is going to do for any given event. We here at PPA call it the ‘smart money’ principle.

 

Majority of users on the Betfair platform have, at a minimum, a good understanding of betting/markets you will find that Betfair will give a more accurate reflection on the value of a horse, trotter, greyhound, and teams/players in a sporting event.  This information is invaluable when determining what platform you will be placing your bets on for any given event. 3.    Do Betfair offer free bets? Can I get a matched deposit?

 

Betfair does not offer free bets, nor do they have similar promotions to your typical bookmakers. Betfair, in our opinion, are the market leaders when offering tools to give punters the best chance of winning although these tools are not your typical deposit bonus/bonus bet/money back promotions.

5.    Why can’t I put my bet on early?

 

Betfair is a user to user wagering platform that needs liquidity in the market for you to be able to place a bet. However, Betfair have combated this issue by offering a best starting price (BSP) system. BSP works similar to your tote or top tote plus betting from your corporate bookmaker in that you will get the starting price of your bet when the event commences. As stated above, in almost all circumstances Betfair’s BSP will give you better odds compared to the corporate bookmakers starting price.

 

6.    How are Betfair better if they don't have free bets? Do they do money back for placing?

 

For what you miss out on by not receiving free bets or money back promotions on Betfair, you will more than get back because of better odds. Particularly for bigger punters.

 

7.    If I can not bet straight away when can I bet?

 

You can either bet on Betfair BSP straight away or wait until the event gets closer and there’s more liquidity in the market and place a bet then. Setting a alarm for 3-5 minutes prior to the race is a good time to start. Monitoring markets early to learn how it all operates is a great idea.

 

8.    Do you get money from our losses like other bookie affiliates? 

 

No, we don’t. When we started PPA we  had partnerships with some of Australia’s corporate bookmakers however they are no longer active. How would I use Betfair when betting on PPA’s tips?

 

Whenever PPA advises you to take (TT+) or ($2.4/TT+) you should use Betfair for the portion of the units that is tote.

 

You can do this by placing your wager on Betfair Starting Price (BSP).

 

I find Betfair confusing and hard to use, is it worth using?

Arbitrage betting/hedging your bets:

 

Betfair typically offers the best market prices along with the ability to ‘lay’ an outcome in any given event. This means that you may be able to, depending on the market, put yourself in a position for risk-free profit. This is called arbitrage betting or hedging your bets.

 

Lay betting is completely unique to Betfair. Lay betting can be very overwhelming at first but once you understand the basics it will open your eyes to a whole new way of betting.

 

Laying a bet means you are betting on something not to happen. Examples include:

 

-       -A certain runner not to win its next race

-      - Australia not to win their next cricket match

-      - Adelaide Crows not to win the premiership in 2022
