Morphettville Best Bets:
R1 #6 Calypso Reign 🚨🚨
Should sit out back in small field, Scholar to set up a hot speed and we should be launching down the outside late.
R5 #11 Robe Bay 🚨🚨🚨
She missed the kick first up and then had plenty of horse underneath but couldn’t get any clear air. Finished not far off them and will take great improvement here second up. She ventures back over to SA for this assignment and with even luck she will be very hard to beat here. I like the fact she has drawn out a bit as she likes being outside horses. I don’t love the jockey booking but she has stacks of talent and we have to be with her on Saturday.
Group 1 Previews:
Author: Early Bird 🦅
Meet: Randwick - Saturday
Bird gives us the first look for 3 of the big races Saturday. Slightly condensed previews with the hope of landing a few exotics from our selections.
Have completed the form with the plan of a Soft 7/ Heavy 8 track come race day meaning i've left a few out across races that need it dry. Let's' hope we get a track playing fair in Sydney on such a big day.
All prices accurate at time of printing in PPA mobile App 5pm Friday 8/4/21
G1 1400m Sires Produce:
TOP PICKS FOR EXOTICS:
ANAMOE: ($1.90) Hard to go past the colt after that devastating finish in the Slipper behind Stay Inside. Could very well be the best 2yo in the country but has come unstuck due to racing pattern on a few occasions. Can't wait to see him out to 1400m now, should eat it up and all things equal looks the winner at skinny odds. Soft/Heavy should be no issue.
LIGHTSABER: ($9) Professional 2yo doing everything right down in Melbourne and gets his chance in a G1 here. Will be up front and give a very good sight in the straight. The formlines are not quite as strong yet but this race is thin and hard to knock his effort.
TIGER OF MALAY: ($11) Stable is firing at the moment and have sent Stay Inside to the paddock instead of pushing on here. I get the feeling they still have a big winning hope with this fella. Loved the tune up trial leading into this race and another that should like the rise to 1400m. Won on Soft track a plus.
FOUR MOVES AHEAD: ($5) The horse proven on the Heavy track but a few question marks around getting the trip and if the Grand Final has been run already. Have to include with likelihood of track conditions favouring her immensely but a little concern on whats left in the tank.
QUEEN OF WIZARDRY: ($46) My roughie for the race that I think can bounce back off the plain Slipper run first up where she never really got going on the inside. Should strip a lot fitter and always presented as a horse that would be suited over further. Kah on a big tick and look for this filly to be strong at the end of what could be a testing 1400m.
G1 2400m Australian Derby:
TOP PICKS FOR EXOTICS:
ROCKET SPADE: ($11/$3.50) Going to take a little chance on the Kiwi galloper who is a proven G1 winner at the trip across the ditch. Interesting prep winning over 2400m then back to 1600m for a win before coming to this. Wet track, trip/fitness no issue but lining up the form is the question.
LIONS ROAR: ($8.5/$2.90) Another Kiwi who was brilliant in the Guineas behind M'ounga when only warming up late. Handles the wet and if he can step out in trip now looks to get every hope of turning the tables on a few that finished in front last time out. The slight negative is where he lands in the run from the gate but if he can get an economical run in transit without slipping too far back he will be a major player late.
YALETOWN: ($17/$4.6) Backing in Gai to have unearthed another one here after the all the way win in the Tulloch. Should cross from the gate to be up in the firing line early and with cheap sectionals will give a kick late. Will need to improve again but the Hungry Heart form look strong now alos.
MONTEFILIA: ($3.6) Big fan of this filly and the run last time out screamed load up next time. Has beaten the boys before and the journey will be no issue. Hard to see her not being in the finish again here but surprised she hasn't gone straight to Oaks where looked a moral but may well back up there. Ready to win this third up and include in everything.
SKY LAB: ($4.5) Not many knocks on this fella but do feel Lions Roar/Montefilia can turn the tables from the Guineas run here. Has the grounding this prep to run out a strong 2400m but has been up a long while now. Gun draw and wet no problems so if he holds form will be thereabouts.
PROMPT PRODIGY: ($51) Big big odds considering the last start run in Tulloch and the fact those horses he split are a quarter of the price here. Only won a country maiden but you just need to include as the odds don't seem right at all. Was a month between runs before last start so expect he would've tightened up a bit as well.
G1 TJ SMITH 1200m:
Too tough to split the top 4 in the market here and anyone of them can win. Think we can pen Libertini on a wet track but hard to see the winner or even trifecta not coming from those top 4 in the market.
Not biggest Bivouac fan and he has been disappointing this prep but this is the race he was set for and doe's produce best when primed.
Eduardo is absolutely scorching the turf at the moment, worried Nature Strip out of it in the Challenge before backing it up in the Galaxy with a better win.
Masked Crusader was amazing in the William Reid piercing the gap and putting them away in a few strides, will be the one flashing late here off the hot speed.
Nature Strip loves it wet and looking to defend his crown from last year. Should peak here and we know when he gets it all right is a champion. For what it's worth I've gone with the order below:
Enjoy the cracking day of racing,
